Englischer Romanschriftsteller, der vor allem durch seine historischen Romane um den Seemann Horatio Hornblower und seine Karriere bekannt geworden ist. Der letzte der Hornblower-Romane ist Fragment geblieben. Der schon in den Dreißigerjahren geschriebene Roman The Pursued wurde erst 2003 entdeckt; Penguin hat ihn 2011 veröffentlicht, Außer seinen Romanen hat Forester eine Reihe Sachbücher über die napoleonische Zeit sowie ein paar Kriminalromane veröffentlicht.

Viele seiner Romane sind verfilmt worden; allein die Hornblower-Serie der ITV umfasst acht Folgen. Darüber hinaus hat er als Journalist für die Times gearbeitet und Drehbücher verfasst. Er gilt als "Entdecker" (Ermunternder) von Roald Dahl.
